The Seventeenth Annual Remembrance Day Dinner & Ball

Hello All!
It is with great pleasure that  Nancy and I announce that tickets for this year’s Remembrance Day Dinner and Ball are now available! We wanted to freshen things up a bit so we have given each night a different theme, different food, different door prizes, different places and chocolate frames.

Just after this past year’s events, there was a sudden change in the dates for 2019. This year’s events will be held on November 22 & 23. Because of this change, it was necessary to change the location of the Saturday Ball but the Friday Ball will still be at the Gettysburg Hotel.

Here’s what’s is in store for this year:

Friday night, November 22nd

Celtic Ball

For Friday’s Fancy Dress Ball, the theme is a Tartan Ball to commemorate those of Celtic heritage who fought during the Civil War. For 1860s Fancy Dress (costume), gentlemen may wish to come as an historical character such as Rob Roy, William Wallace, King Robert the Bruce, a clansman in a great kilt, a Chieftain of a clan. Ladies, you may wish to come as a simple shepherdess, a milk maid, or a noble clans woman. Be as creative as you like! If you do not wish to wear a fancy dress costume then gentlemen are welcomed to wear kilted attire, or add a waistcoat or cockade of Tartan. Ladies may wish to wear the traditional Tartan sash with your ballgown or add tartan ribbons to your headpiece. Thistles (Scotland), Daffodils (Wales) and Shamrocks (Ireland) can also be incorporated with pride. Of course, any Civil War attire is welcome.

During dinner, enjoy the lilting sounds of a Celtic Harpist. The ball will begin with the Calling of the Clans led by a bagpiper. The evening will start with a Social Hour at 5:30 pm followed by a three course dinner at 6:30 pm and the Ball starting at 8:30 pm.  Ms. Susan de Guardiola will once again be the dance mistress and music will be provided by Fleeting Moments Waltz & Quickstep Orchestra. Cost for the evening, including dinner, the ball and all the usual gifts such as the chocolate frames, flowers and door prizes is just $79 per person.

Dinner selections are:

  • Petite New York Strip w/ Sherried Mushrooms
  • Crab Topped Salmon w/Citrus Burre Blanc
  • Open Faced Chicken Cordon Bleu w/ Prosciutto & Fontina
  • Vegetable Wellington
  • Chef’s selection of Vegetable, Starch & Dessert
  • Regular & Decaffeinated Coffee, Hot & Iced Tea

Saturday night, November 23rd

Now, on to Saturday night! Saturday night is a traditional Civil War Ball with a patriotic flair.

Due to scheduling conflicts because of the date change, Saturday’s Dinner & Ball will be held at the Gettysburg NPS Visitors’ Center. This will be a private function and we will have full access to the museum for the entire evening as well as two private showings at the Cyclorama!! Dinner will be served Buffet style but with so many choices I can’t list them all here. Feel free to incorporate flags, cockades and other patriotic decorations into your attire.

Glimpse of Cyclorama Painting

Because of the addition of  the museum and the Cyclorama, cost for this evening will be $95 per person. You will find it well worth the additional cost. And, there’s plenty of free parking.

The Center will be opened at 6:00 pm and dinner will be available until 8:30 pm. We will have the entire hall ( 34 feet X 172 feet ) for dancing with dinner in the other room. Once again, Ms. Susan de Guardiola will be our dance mistress.
